The national Pop Warner program has been around since 1929, and Stratford Pop Warner (SPW) itself has been around for more than 50 years. Football is open to participants ages 5 to 13. A child's age on July 31st is his/her age that will be used for the season. You do not have to be a resident of Stratford in order to participate, however a waiver will be necessary if you live in a town that has an existing Pop Warner program.

Stratford Pop Warner does not do tryouts or cutting of rosters. Everyone who is on a team will play in each game in accordance with the mandatory play rule.

Practices
Practices
The season officially begins on August 1st! Practices will be held at either Johnson or Longbrook field. Your head coach will notify you as to where your team will practice. Practices will be held 5 days a week Monday through Friday. Once school begins in September practices for all teams will be 3 days a week, again schedule to be set by the coach.

The League will supply each player with a numbered jersey, game pants, helmet and shoulder pads - which must be returned at the end of each season. Parents must also purchase cleats, a girdle (optional, game pants can be worn over practice pants), socks (optional), mouthpiece (optional, the league will give out a generic mouthpiece), practice pants and an athletic supporter with cup.

Games
Football games will begin in September. There will be a jamoree the last weekend of August. There are 8 regular season games - 4 home and 4 away, with the possibility of a BYE week. Games will be on Saturdays and Sundays, with home games played on Sundays at Bunnell High School. However, depending on field availability the days, times and locations of the games may change.

SPW and coaches do not provide transportation to any away games. It is the parent's responsibility to provide transportation for their child to and from the games, including those that may be out of state during playoff time.
